Netball

Oswestry School Netball encourages pupils of all ages and abilities to experience, enjoy and compete in netball.

Seven ‘A’ teams operate in total with the development of ‘B’ teams, so there are plenty of opportunities for players to compete against schools, colleges and clubs.

The seasons have developed at a rapid pace with girls becoming fitter, more agile, using their speed and applying more team tactics in every game. The standard of Netball has been raised, it’s profile around school and its popularity too.

Netball for Years 3-13 is a Games option during both the Michaelmas and Lent term. Pupils can also access netball in both terms as a club including squad sessions and recreational development. Ex-England coach, Tracey Neville MBE joined the teams in 2018 for a training session where pupils were put through their paces with an attacking session about movement patterns and quick ball release.

Oswestry School has strong links with Shropshire Netball, one of the School's coaches leads this pathway outside of school hours. The School is also home to Oswestry and District Netball League in which the first team and a staff team play providing weekly court sessions for all netballers and athletes aspiring to progress. High performance players are thoroughly supported along their journey through 1-1 coaching, strength and conditioning sessions, psychological support and personal development plans. The coaching team is highly qualified and experienced in both coaching and umpiring enabling players at all levels to fulfil their potential. Sessions are skill based focusing on technical and tactical elements whilst also ensuring all players enjoy their experience and have fun.

Oswestry School frequently features at the County Schools Competition. The U18 team won the plate competition in 2019 and the U15 team are current North Shropshire Champions. The School hosts an annual Super Saturday tournament for schools from the local area with all age groups from the senior school taking part and launching the netball season with a bang.

Oswestry arranges a number of international tours including a trip to Malta. Here the team play adult teams and Malta’s National team. Younger teams attend a residential weekend at Condover Hall bi-annually as part of their on-going development and wider curriculum experience.
