Oswestry School has a proud reputation for the high quality of its sporting provision and the dedication and expertise of the School's coaching and teaching staff. There is a strong tradition of sporting excellence at Oswestry with many pupils gaining regional and national representative honours across a number of sports. Whilst providing fully for the needs of our elite athletes and supporting their outside of school development, all abilities are catered for at Oswestry.

Commencing in Third Form (Year 9) every pupil is able to choose from a wide sporting offering during and pupils are encouraged to enjoy a recreational interest in individual or team games while developing a healthy attitude to fitness and exercise to foster lifelong participation and a passion for sport beyond Oswestry school. 

The ethos of the sports department is to ensure that there is a love for sport that flows through the school. This is showcased through our core sporting values of respect, enjoyment and commitment. We are very proud of our sports teams and individuals at Oswestry school and we pride ourselves on our behaviour, attitude, graciousness and manners before, during and after sporting fixtures. 

Pupils receive expert coaching in the sports of Rugby, Football, Hockey, Netball, Tennis and Cricket. During Physical Education and games lessons there are many opportunities for pupils to participate in numerous other sports and/or co-curricular clubs, including Cross Country, Swimming, Basketball, Athletics, Archery, Fencing, Handball, Volleyball, Golf, Horse Riding, Kayaking, Water Polo, Badminton, Skateboarding, Mountain Biking, Shooting and Table Tennis. 

Pupils are able to make use of the strength and conditioning facilities onsite, which are constantly being developed and improved, alongside there being a dedicated strength and conditioning coach who can provide pupils with a personalised programme that is designed specifically for their needs.

Most, if not all, pupils will represent the school in sporting fixtures during their school career, travelling locally and further afield in the UK to play fixtures against other schools. Additionally, students who take their sporting expertise to a higher level will receive the opportunity to take part in sports trips and tours. Current trips include a ski trip to Spain, football tour to Spain, netball weekend in Baschurch and a rugby weekend in Llandudno. There are overseas sports tours planned in the coming years with South Africa, Dubai and America proposed for our older pupils.

In Upper School, pupils are given the opportunity to participate in a sports leaders programme where they are afforded the chance to 'give back' by assisting, and in some cases leading, coaching sessions for our younger pupils. Pupils are able to gain an accredited qualification as a sports leader. Our sports leaders support significant events at the school such as sports days, tournaments and house events.
