They may be considered for an award based on proven outstanding ability in other sports and the potential to contribute significantly to the School's main sporting programme.
Sports scholarships worth up to 50% of the school fees will be awarded on the strength of the candidate's overall performance across the range of assessments.
The school is looking for sports scholars who will make a significant contribution to the breadth of Oswestry School sport. In addition, a willingness to develop and 'coachability' are significant factors in any decision.
Sports scholars are expected to demonstrate commitment and application to school sport, both curricular and co-curricular. There is an extensive Saturday fixture programme, to which sport scholars are required to contribute.
Candidates must bring to the assessment a full sporting CV detailing their achievements to date.
Candidates will be involved in an interview with the Director of Sport or another senior member of the sports department.
Candidates will undertake fitness testing and complete a multi-sport based practical.
Assessment of preferred sports will be by arrangement with the Director of Sport.
The Director of Sport may wish to call for a reference from an appropriate coach.
All candidates will also have a short interview with the Headmaster or another senior member of staff and will require a good reference from the candidate's current school.
TNSFC Sport Scholarship
In addition, the School enjoys a partnership with The New Saints Football Club (TNSFC). TNS are a professional football club, regular champions of Wales and thus enter the Champions League. This scholarship is intended to both cement the relationship between the School and the club and enable the fine sportsmen and women of TNSFC to enjoy an Oswestry School education.
