Oswestry School’s Sixth Form is not merely an extension of the Upper School, but a unique leap into adulthood. With more opportunity, freedom and a totally different atmosphere, the Sixth Form provides students with an ideal learning environment to prepare for the world outside.
Oswestry School aims to enable each individual to achieve their potential. Progress and achievement is carefully monitored in small tutor groups. Excellent teaching delivered by highly qualified and experienced teaching staff is allied to an effective tutorial programme and provides a sound preparation for university life. In the Sixth Form most students study four AS levels in the Lower Sixth and three of these are taken to A2 level in the Upper Sixth, providing a total of three full A levels and one AS level. Students may, of course, study up to five or six A level subjects if this is appropriate and desirable.
The School’s A level results are first class, with the majority of leavers proceeding to university degree courses at top universities. There is a long standing tradition of entry to Oxford and Cambridge. We pride ourselves on the fact that careful and considered advice is given to ensure passage to the next appropriate stage. We provide every opportunity to succeed.
The Sixth Form is regarded as an essential transition between school and either university or the ‘world of work’. Students are therefore encouraged to develop the habits of independent study and enquiry. There are purpose-built boarding houses for both girls and boys to assist with this passage in a structured environment. Their facilities are separate from those of the rest of the School.
