    New Head for Oswestry School

Following on from the successful nine years under the headship of Paul Stockdale, the Governors of Oswestry School are delighted to announce the appointment of Douglas Robb as Headmaster of Oswestry School as from September 2010.

Paul Stockdale commented, ‘Douglas could not be joining us at a more exciting time in our six-hundred year history.  Pupil numbers are at their highest for many years, attracted by our commitment to educating the whole person, rather than concentrating on current fads.  Our academic reputation speaks for itself and our pastoral care is second to none.  The recent appointment of a new Director of Sport, combined with our planned new sports complex situated in our fifty acre grounds, herald a new direction and drive for Oswestry School in this context.  Our investment over the last few years has resulted in new teaching blocks, new IT suites, a new boys’ boarding house and massive improvements to existing classrooms and boarding facilities.  Our commitment to academic success, extra-curricular activities for all, excellent pastoral support and fair but firm discipline results in the exemplary young men and women that leave us to go on to the best universities.’

Originally from the Wirral, Douglas Robb was educated at Birkenhead School, followed by Edinburgh University and Cambridge University.   He has taught in Prince Edward School Harare in Zimbabwe, Fettes College in Scotland and Loughborough Grammar School and comes to Oswestry from Oundle School, where he has taught Economics and Politics since 2000 and helps coach the 1st XV rugby team, as well as the football, tennis and cricket teams.   His interests are primarily sporting, both field and ball and he is charge of clay-pigeon shooting at the school.  Douglas Robb is not just a keen sportsman; The Gastronomy Society and The Scottish Dancing Club are also under his direction!

Mr Robb will be joined in Oswestry by his wife Lucinda and children Miranda aged 8, Hector aged 5 and Fergus aged 2 who are very much looking forward to joining Bellan House, Oswestry School’s pre-preparatory department, which is located in the centre of Oswestry, five minutes walk from the senior school.

Mr Robb said, ‘I am absolutely delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich history.  Exciting times lie ahead and with the continued investment and commitment to improving the wonderful site, so close to the town, I am determined to carry on the fantastic work that has been completed over the last few years.  My family and I are all extremely pleased with the prospect of moving to Oswestry and becoming part of not only the school but also the local community.’
