In contrast with some nursery establishments, Little Explorers not only offers structured play but also has a strong educational element to help children achieve literacy and numeracy at the earliest possible age. The small class sizes, together with fully qualified teaching staff and nursery nurses, enable each child to progress towards these goals. Additional subjects, such as French, music and ballet, are gently introduced giving children a firm foundation on which to build. From Little Explorers, children are able to progress through the main nursery onwards through reception and into the pre-prep.
Nursery children all participate in Bellan House activities. They join in the Summer Show, go to the Parish Church for the Nativity Play, watch school orchestra and choir performances and meet visiting speakers.
Recently, the nursery children have been enjoying 'Forest School' outdoors in a safe woodland setting on the senior school site. A concept developed originally in Denmark for pre-school children, 'Forest School' is a terrific learning opportunity and is an initiative based principally on delivering the curriculum in a stimulating outdoor setting regularly throughout the year.
The Nursery at Bellan House is Ofsted registered and received an excellent report in November 2005.
