Oswestry School’s ethos is to ensure that the skills of each pupil are developed, not only through academic education but also through identifying their physical abilities and encouraging them to participate in a wide range of sporting activities.
Facilities at the School include 30 acres of playing fields, heated indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, all-weather tennis and netball courts and cricket nets. Pupils enjoy their sport and the extensive range of activities on offer ensures that there is a variety of team and individual pursuits in which all can participate and succeed.
The school has always been proud of its record on the games field, providing a wide range of team sports. A high level of competitive excellence is achieved across all the School’s main games of football, hockey, rugby, netball, cricket, tennis, athletics and cross country. We have regular sports fixtures with other independent and state schools. Individuals from the School are regularly selected to play at county or even national level in their respective pursuits.
We think it is important to support and encourage the success of our pupils and we are extremely proud of their achievements, both in and out of school. Representation at any level is worthy of praise and acknowledgement and we urge each individual to inform us of all that they accomplish so that we can share in and celebrate their success.
Additional activities as diverse as mountain biking, aerobics, kayaking and sailing can be enjoyed. We have a very active and popular CCF and many pupils take up the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. The School also runs an annual ski trip and regular self-directed expeditions to locations such as Peru, Corsica, the Himalayas and Morocco.
The range of extra-curricular activities on offer allows our pupils to experience a full and varied sports programme. With specialist coaches offering pursuits such as kung fu, basketball and fencing (to name but 3), our pupils’ time after school is fully enriched. There is something for everyone, every day.
