The Rev Canon William Archibald Spooner DD (1844–1930) OO 1856-1962, was educated at Oswestry School and New College, Oxford, the first non-Wykehamist to be so, and became an Anglican priest and a scholar.

The Old Oswestrian Society is extemly proud to call Sigi Faith an Old Oswestrian. Born Siegfried Samuel Feitlowitz in Hamburg in 1928, Sigi had arrived in England on the Kindertransport in 1938 and was sent to Oswestry in 1939 where he was welcomed at Oswestry School by headmaster Ralph Williamson.

Since the first Old Oswestrian dinner on 1^st March 1882 the Society has grown to become a very active body of support who is just as passionate about the School’s future as it is about its past. With various functions and regular updates via newsletters and social media, the Society gives an insight to all past pupils and parents of the School.

An Old Oswestrian’s connection with the School does not stop once they walk through the ‘Last Day’ exit for the final time as a pupil. The Society endeavours to facilitate a continuing relationship with all Old Oswestrians. We pride ourselves on the tremendous sense of community that our Old Oswestrians have with one another and with the School. Despite a diverse range of ages, occupations, and interests, we believe the shared experience of years at School creates a great bond for all members of the Society which exists to enable that sense of community to flourish. The Society helps all members to keep in touch, and to continue to support the School in many diverse ways.

Junior chess club tactics reach national level

The prep department, Bellan House has a thriving chess club which has started competing in national competitions. Hamish Coutts-Britton (Year 3) and Ben Tidridge (Year 4) accumulated points to reach the regional megafinal of the Delauncey UK Schools chess challenge held in Worcester recently.

The Oswestry eagle has landed

Oswestry School has been one of the first to adopt a giant metal sculpture as part of the Oswestry Urban Safari Trail the sculpture. The magnificent “Eagle” which stands at circ. nine feet tall on its specially designed plinth has been provided by the British Ironworks Centre. The eagle is situated close to St Oswald’s Well on the School site by Oswald’s Well Lane.

Year 6 take part in Lake District Field Trip

Year 6 have travelled to Blencathra Field Studies Centre in the Lake District for a week to develop their understanding of aspects in the Geography and Science curriculum. The Field Centre is set in the South West side of Blencathra Mountain and offers a great panorama of pastures, valleys, streams and lakes. It is hoped that this setting will provide interest and inspiration to the pupils and provide them with an opportunity to develop teamwork skills.
