THE last mayor of Ellesmere Port and Neston is to be installed this week.
Cllr Keith Butcher is to become the borough’s mayor at a special ceremony to be held tomorrow.
Cllr Butcher represents Ellesmere Port’s Rossmore ward, and has previously represented Little Neston and Rivacre wards.
But, with the creation of a new West Cheshire Council, it will mean there will be no more after his term expires next year.
Cllr Butcher is chair of governors at Willaston C of E Primary School and also at Blacon High School.
His local authority career began as a parish councillor in Higher Kinnerton in 1970, and he was also a founding member of Alyn and District Council, in Clwyd, in 1973.
Serving alongside him as mayoress will be his wife, Jean, with Cllr Tony Sherlock and his wife, Pat Sherlock, as deputy mayor and mayoress.
Cllr Butcher is looking forward to the role and said: “I am conscious of the success of the borough and hope the successor authority will build on our wonderful civic tradition.
“Joan and I, as the last Mayoral couple, hope to meet as many people as possible to thank them for all their hard work, often unrecognised, which contributes to the quality of life for many people within the community.”
Keith attended OS in 1947 to 1956 where he was a boarder in Holbache.
