Saturday 3rd February
Netball

1st VII, 2nd VII/U16, U15, U14 v Ellesmere College (h) 9.30am

Even acute frosts on the courts did not deter the netball matches being played against Ellesmere College.  Although one court was unusable, all four matches took place one after the other on the court where the sun had melted the frost for the 9.30am start.

U15
In spite of illness for three of the Oswestry team, the U15s played well with positions having to be re-arranged to cover the missing team members.  Ellesmere quickly moved ahead with some fine shooting, but the Oswestry team never gave up.  The play was closer than the score suggests.  Sophie Jones was awarded Player of the Match.
Oswestry lost 9 - 20

U14
This was another close match but Oswestry never really found their usual form, making basic errors and missing shooting opportunites.  The U13 players in the team performed well at this level, but we must practise space awareness on the court.
Oswestry lost 5 - 16

2nd VII
This was one of the best matches I have seen for a while.  Both teams were equal and players were hotly contesting every ball, with play switching quickly from one end to the other.  Unfortunately, Brooke Simons-Akwah was taken off with an ankle injury, but the team quickly adapted to changed positions and continued to battle furiously until the final whistle.  The 9-9 draw was justified as both teams played so well.
Player of the Match was jointly awarded to Charlotte Dingwall-Fordyce and Martha Twigg.

1st VII
Again, this was an exciting match with two well-matched teams playing very good netball.  The game was fast-flowing with the Oswestry team eventually drawing into a well-deserved lead.
Oswestry won 16 - 8
Player of the Match was awarded to the whole team.

Well done to all the teams who played, it was an excellent morning of exciting netball which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
