The CVQO is a providing body for the Cadet Movement to provide a qualification called the Vocational Qualification in Uniformed Services. Basically the award recognises the time and effort that members of the cadet force put into various activities under its umbrella that include areas such as Military Skills, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Adventurous Training. The time spent doing these activities is seldom recognised but this qualification indicates an individua'ls commitment and personal character as it is passed at several levels depending on the level of activity of the individual cadets.
6 members of Oswestry School Combined Cadet Force are taking the award and spent time today tackling the course's workbook under the guidance of Major Ian Kelly, CVQO Regional Operations Manager, who administers the award in the Northern area of the country. The students were involved in looking at different aspects of the uniformed services as well as fitness and giving a mini presentation on the benefits of being a member of the CCF and other similar youth organisations.
The group now have to work through a mock application and interview process for the armed forces as well as attend various courses such as the leadership course at Nesscliffe for a week during Easter, and adventure training courses at the Cadet Centres for Adventurous Training.
