Hockey

v Welshpool High School (a) 3.30pm

This was the first match of the season and was played at Welshpool on astroturf - a very good experience for the girls against probably the toughest opposition of the season as many of their team play at county level.

1st XI Report

The first match is always the hardest, as the team is trying to find its feet and gel together.  However, there was good communication throughout, and all players showed a high level of skill.

The 1st XI had equal possession in the first half with a few opportunities on goal, but unfortunately failing to score.

We began to tire in the second half and this was when Welshpool used this to their advantage, picking up the pace and scoring six goals overall.

Although we lost, the team came from there in high spirits, confident that this will be a good season for the 1st XI.

A special mention should go tho Lucy Belcher as this was the first time she had played with us and she was a little nervous, though she needn't have been, she was terrific, making some magnificent saves.

Well done girls.  Thank you to Miss Ainslie and Mrs Keighley for organising the matches and being the evr supportive coaches.

U15 Report

The Welshpool side displayed excellent stickwork and quickly scored 2 goals in spite of the valliant efforts of Lucy Williams in goal.  A fantastic goal by the Welshpool side put us 3-0 down at halftime.

After a tactical talk during the half-time break, the Oswestry team played long balls in the second half giving Kinzi Welsby a couple of chances but unfortunately these were quickly stopped by the Welshpool defence.  The second half was more closely contested with the Oswestry defence tackling harder and clearing much quicker from the D.  However, they were unable to stop a further goal and eventually lost 4-0 to a very good Welshpool side.

Mrs Keighley was very proud of the effort put in by all the Oswestry team - a good start to the season!

Player of the match was shared between Rebecca McMurray and the captain, Chelsea Harper.
