Oswestry v Concord College U16s

Mr Morris organised a friendly basketball match against Concord College on Saturday 6th March.

A squad from Holbache (plus 2 boys from School House) played against Concord's U16 team who, although younger, were a very organised, professional and experienced outfit, currently through to the finals in the league in which they play. As this was the first time our boys had played together as a team (apart from a practice session organised by the new basketball coach) little was expected of us.  However, we got off to a good start, scoring straightaway and dominating the play, maintaining continuity throughout several substitutions and running out winners with a score of 69-45!

This was partly due to good team work and communication between our players. Jason Hu, Temitope Odusina and Shiqi Liu were particularly strong in defence. In attack, most of the team managed to get their names on the score sheet several times with Balazs Homoki particularly active and accurate, contributing in excess of 20 points to the final score.

On the strength of our performance, the team have been offered further fixtures.

Coach's Report

The Seniors Basketball Team began well on Friday 5th March with a win at home against a local Oswestry club team of more seasoned players but this was only the warm up for the away match on Saturday against Concord College.
Despite a late start in the season and facing county league finalists in their first game, Oswestry won comfortably by 69 points to 45.

The squad showed great strength led by point guard and team captain Balazs Homoki whom rightfully earned the title, MVP. Top scorer though, was sixth former Temitope giving a gutsy performance with 19 points for his team followed closely by Balazs with 17 and Louis Li with 13.

Leading 34 to 23 at half time, Oswestry gained confidence with forwards Jason, James Young and Mircea Balan dominating at both ends of the court. By the third quarter Concord although playing well, they were too far behind to pose any further threat.

Two wins in two days; a fine effort from all in general and great team contribution also from point guards Tom, Shiqui, Daniel, Jack Ewing and Semen Bas.

Seniors Basketball club is on Fridays at 4.30pm till 5.30pm with Basketball also during Games on Wednedays. Juniors Basketball club is on Mondays 4.30pm till 5.30pm
