1st Xl, 2nd Xl, U15 v Royal Wolverhampton (h), 2.45pm

It’s hard to see how a 2-1 defeat can be more gutting than the many heavy beatings suffered before half term, but coming so close to our first victory only to miss several chances and lose 2-1 is in my eyes far more demoralising. Every player involved in the game played well; real effort and desire to win was shown for the first time this season.

The first half was very even, both sides created many chances in a very open game which should have produced far more goals than just the single goal from the Wolverhampton striker. Sean Crompton was especially effective in the first half making some very good runs down the left side, and also producing some excellent crosses which created some clear cut opportunities for strikers. Adam Lloyd and Oliver Szikszay also put in brilliant first half performances. Adam held the ball up really well and Ollie provided some quality crosses from the right side of midfield.

The second half followed the same suit; performances were quality all round, the defence worked extremely hard especially Ricky Martoccia and James Young, both these players were backed up by the full backs who put in tremendous effort. Unfortunately, Oswestry conceded a second mid-way through the second half against the run of play, but quickly pulled a goal back through Dikko Lawal who timed his run perfectly and finished well, Oswestry then piled on the pressure creating many clear cut chances which should have resulted in a win. But on the day Oswestry were unlucky losers and I feel sorry for the guys, as the effort put in didn’t deserve a loss.

POM All players mentioned above were excellent but Ollie Szikszay just gets it.
