With players out injured, and many key squad members away on the French Exchange, it gave others squad members the opportunity to perform and show their capabilities.
The first half was a half in which Oswestry just didn’t seem to turn up. A couple of early chances from NC were an early indication of things to come. Oswestry conceded an early penalty that was athletically saved by keeper Ben Parker Marshall, but, even after this lucky break, Oswestry conceded a goal 10 minutes from half time off a NC corner. This was quickly followed by 3 carbon copy strikes from a NC midfielder; three stunning goals which Oswestry could do nothing about, followed by another goal on the stroke of half time.
The side went into half time very depleted after a tough half. An inspirational half time team talk saw Oswestry come alive in the second half as the Oswestrians dominated play; this was rewarded with a goal by Chris. North Cestrian, against the run of play, scored 2 further goals, one of which was a last minute penalty conceded by James Rodgers who was penalised for a hand ball in the area which he needn’t had touched at all as the ball was travelling wide for an Oswestry goal kick. Nevertheless, it was an encouraging second half performance - one to take positives from at least.
