Pat is Five Live’s cricket reporter, covering all England’s international matches in this country, and has been on 18 England tours and has one of the most recognisable voices in English cricket broadcasting.
A graduate in law, Pat has also produced more than 40 cricket books, most recently with Andrew Flintoff. His previous books were with, amongst others, Bob Willis, Basil D’Oliveira, Wasim Akram, Allan Donald, Viv Richards, Graham Gooch, Graeme Hick, David Gower, Jack Russell and Bob Taylor. He has also written a pictorial history of village cricket.
After seeing England’s cricketers humiliated both home and away by Australia in eight successive series, his most memorable time in his career was covering for Five Live the return of the Ashes, at the Oval in September 2005, then interviewing every one of that successful England side in the dressing-room as the celebrations got into full swing.
For the last 4 years of his life, Pat wrote Brian Clough's monthly column for 4-4-2 Magazine. Following on from “His Way: The Brian Clough Story”, his 1994 acclaimed biography of Clough, Pat conducted the last ever interview with the man who was left-field, left-wing and legendary and updated the original book in 2004, adding a poignant tribute to a close personal friend to produce an outstanding updated reissue.
With Derek Dougan, Pat co-authored, “Matches of the Day 1958/63”, a look at 25 influential games in world football, and was also a regular monthly contributor to the “Match of the Day” magazine.
