As soon as the pupils left school at the end of term, the builders and school maintenance team moved in!
The first buildings to go were two of the classroom blocks on the Lower Paddock. This is what the Headmaster, Paul Stockdale said in his end of term letter to parents.
"I am delighted to be able to tell you that with the arrival of the new term we will have six new classrooms replacing the ‘Green Block’ and the two classrooms at the end of the garden area adjacent to the ‘Green Block’. Though the classrooms being demolished have served well as teaching rooms (and, after all, it is the good teaching and learning which goes on in the rooms which is the most important factor) they were not exactly aesthetically pleasing (!) and were certainly well past their ‘sell-by dates’. The construction schedule is tight but we hope to have all the rooms up and running towards the beginning of term."
At the same time, the school maintenance team moved into Ludlow dormitory, School House, to clear the room in preparation for the builders to come in and refurbish. You can see from the pictures how the dormitory must have looked when it was built (old photo shows Powis dormitory in 1890).
Builders are also refurbishing the 'resi' at Bellan House in preparation for the opening of the Oswestry School Prepcare Nursery facility in September.
