German Exchange

English and German students work together on magazine project

Nine students from Years 10 and 11 went on the German exchange visit to the Otto Hahn Gymnasium, Landau, in Rheinland Pfalz, from February 7th-14th.  A major focus of the exchange was to work with the German students to produce an Anglo-German magazine; Oswestry School and the Otto Hahn Gymnasium shared a Challenge Fund Grant of £1800 to assist with the exchange and production costs.

The grant award was made by the UK-German Connection (www.ukgermanconnection.org), an organisation which is dedicated to increasing understanding and cultural awareness between young people in the UK and Germany.

The English students stayed with local families and had the chance to visit the European Parliament at Strasbourg as well as working to prepare the magazine.

Oswestry School Teacher Mrs Payne, who led the exchange, said: “The students worked extremely well together and thoroughly enjoyed their visit. We are very grateful to the UK -German Connection organisation for the generous grant awarded.”

The magazine, written and edited by the students in English and German, features articles on a range of subjects including the European parliament visit, observations on life in German and English schools, environmental issues and many other articles of interest to young people. It will be published in March and will be available free of charge from the Modern Languages Department.
