CCF Has New Sea Kayaking Equipment

As a result of new equipment obtained by the CCF, Oswestry School students can now learn the skills of Sea Kayaking as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.

After learning the basic techniques during a period of intensive training, the school cadets will then be assessed for the award while undertaking four-day expeditions in North Wales and Scotland.

“As well as learning the practical skills involved in kayaking, the participants will develop the teamwork, communication and organisational skills necessary for a successful venture,” said group leader Mr Alistair Othen, an experienced sea kayaker.

Oswestry School intends to develop their sea kayaking activities. Preparations are being made for an expedition to the Norwegian fiords.

Have a look at the Outdoor Education section of the school website (click here) to see what they get up to and, if you are undertaking the Gold Award this year, you may also download your expedition administration instructions from this page.
