What is the Titus Trust?

The Titus Trust has been working with children and young people from Independent Schools for over 70 years - you may be familiar with their work through the Gloddaeth ('Glod') activity holidays.

The Trust's work was established by the Reverend Eric Nash, who was employed by Scripture Union (a Christian charity) to work alongside children from Independent Schools. The Reverend Eric Nash, affectionately known as "Bash", was committed to teaching children the Biblical truth about God's son, Jesus, so that they might trust and serve Jesus as their Saviour and Lord. It was Bash who pioneered the Trust's work in Independent Schools and who began the residential holidays that, 70 years later, remain central to the Trust's vision.

By 1941, Bash had begun to run holidays for schoolchildren in a small, Dorset village called Iwerne Minster and the holidays became known as "Iwerne Holidays". Over the years, the work expanded and new holidays were established at a number of different venues around England and Wales. In addition, a trust fund was established, called "The Iwerne Trust" to help finance Scripture Union's vital work within Independent Schools.

In 1997, a new Company, limited by guarantee (Company no. 3473879) was established called "The Titus Trust" in order to safeguard this Independent Schools' work and to take it forward into the new century. The Titus Trust is also registered as a Charity with the Charity Commission (Charity no. 1066751). Although the Titus Trust is now fully independent of Scripture Union, both organisations continue to enjoy a close friendship and are pleased to support each other's work.

The Titus Trust now employs approximately 16 members of staff. The Trust Manager is responsible to the Trustees for the day to day management and administration of the Trust and has particular responsibility for matters of employment and for the Trust's finances. The other members of staff work in partnership with a number of Independent Schools (for example, taking assemblies and lessons, giving talks at Chapel and helping to run Christian meetings) and are also responsible for organising and operating the Trust's activity holidays and other events.
