Hockey

1st XI, U15 v Bedstone College (a) 2pm

1st XI  Won 5 - 1

An excellent first half by our players who dominated the possession showing excellent attacking moves. The defence also played extremely well and tackled stongly.  We managed to score in the opening minutes and maintained this pressure by scoring a further four goals during the half.

We went into the second half full of confidence and determined to extend our lead. However, Bedstone came back a lot stronger and our defence worked hard to keep us 5 nil up. We continued to create several chances but Bedstone defended well and then found a gap in our midfield and went on to score. We kept the pressure on and the game ended with a well deserved victory for us.

Well done to all of the players; it was an excellent performance.

CA

U15 Lost 1-3

Oswestry were rather reticent to attack during the first half, allowing Bedstone to penetrate the defence with some long balls, and taking backward steps away from the tackles.  A good through ball from our defence allowed Grace Mitchell to sweep through the Bedstone defence and score an excellent goal.

Bedstone quickly replied, putting our defence under constant pressure and, although they managed to equalise, the score would have been far more if Nadia Khan, playing in goal for the first time in a school match, had not defended courageously.  Bedstone were able to put another two very good goals into the back of the net.

After halftime, Oswestry returned with a much more positive attitude and held the majority of the play for that half in their attacking 25 metre area.  The ball swung from side to side, making it far more difficult for Bedstone to take possession of the ball.  When they did gain possession, Oswestry tackled ferociously, supporting each other admirably and making excellent use of long balls to set up great attacking moves for the forwards.  Frustratingly, despite all our efforts, we were unable to score again.

This was the best hockey the U15s have played this season and they should be justifiably proud of their performance this afternoon.  Congratulations to the whole squad!!!
