After a few set-backs due to illness and other circumstances, we agreed to take a mixed-aged team across to play Wrekin 3rd XI.
Both teams were well-matched but Wrekin managed to score first a few minutes into the match. Oswestry fought back well, but tended to defend too much instead of taking their chances to attack more. With some encouragement, their persistance reaped its reward with a goal from Chelsea Harper. This motivated the team and they played better attacking moves so that, inspite of some excellent defence work from Wrekin, Oswestry scored a second time with a goal from Katherine Stockdale. Wrekin now turned up the pressure, but the Oswestry defence played well and Laura Doyle, in goal for her first time, made some very good saves. The play then swung from end to end, but Wrekin broke in the last few minutes to equalise with an excellent shot from the edge of the dee.
It was a great effort from a team who had not played together before. The junior players gained valuable experience and the senior players performed an excellent role of encouraging and supporting the juniors.
