Hockey

1st XI, U15 v Ellesmere College (h) 9.30am

1sts

We started the game strongly with the possession evenly matched throughout the first half.  We created several good chances but were unable to convert them into goals.  Our defence played well and cleared many chances created by Ellesmere with Brooke Simons-Akwah making some fine saves.

At half time we were a goal down.  The second half was dominated by Ellesmere, and, although we did create some good chances to score, unfortunately, a strong Ellesmere defence prevented us. Ellesmere continued to pressure and dominated the possession in the midfield scoring again to maintain the lead.  Our defence were under pressure and two goal-mouth scrambles led to Ellesmere sealing the victory.

The score does not truly reflect the standard of the play, as both teams were evenly matched throughout the game but Ellesmere had the advantage of being able to find the back of the net!!

Rebecca Long took over the captaincy of the team admirably as Frances Rowles is injured.  The defence worked well together with some ferocious tackling, which they never gave up on.  Ellesmere scored some really good goals with their attack supporting each other well.  Oswestry had several opportunites to score but need more aggression to follow up shots and were just unable to put the ball in the back of the net.

It was an excellent game and the U15's must be pleased with their performance, generally.
