1st XI
The 1st XI started their season with a tough match against Welshpool High School. Welshpool scored in the opening 5 minutes and continued to pressure our defence. We set up several good attacks but these were closed down by a strong defence. As the game progressed, both sides displayed some excellent play and we worked hard to regain the possession, however, Welshpool continued to dominate and scored a further four goals.
The second half was much the same. Lack of fitness began to show and we allowed the Welshpool side too much time and space with several players unmarked on too many occasions. Although we showed some good spells, we were unable to convert our chances and struggled to break down the Welshpool attack.

U15 XI
The whole team were well-motivated and knew they would be facing stiff opposition.
At first, their nervousness allowed them to give Welshpool too much space to move on the field instead of closing in for the tackles and ensuring the ball was cleared which resulted in Welshpool scoring a good goal.
Welshpool renewed their strong attack in the second half, but Oswestry held their ground, tackling with more determination and making good use of long balls. Rebecca McMurray had a cracking goal disallowed (quite rightly) as the ball was outside the dee when struck, but at least the team realised they COULD score. The whole team continued to work well together, but they do need to communicate better and improve their fitness.
An excellent start to the season which will, hopefully, motivate all the girls to improve their fitness and continue to work on their skills. Well done.
