Wednesday 4th June
Recital Series

Red Priest, Holy Trinity Church, 7.30pm

A visit from this amazing ensemble should absolutely ensure that the Season ends with a bang. Their name is, of course, a reference to the Red Priest of Venice - Antonio Vivaldi - and it is this period of music which is the inspiration behind the ensemble. But that is just a starting point!

The four players (Piers Adams, recorders: Julia Bishop, violin: Angela East, cello: Howard Beach, harpsichord) present their versions of the baroque in ways as varied as they are inspired. They have won a huge following throughout the world for the extraordinary concerts that they put on, the sheer ingenuity of their musical arrangements and the virtuosity of their playing.

One of their revealing advertising slogans reads - ‘Just when you thought it was safe to listen to Baroque music’ - and two of their programme titles are also revealing : ‘Nightmare in Venice’ and ‘Pirates of the Baroque’. Whatever they present for us is guaranteed to stimulate, amuse and delight!

Concert to be reviewed by Chris Symons.
