This should be a most exciting occasion. The opportunity to hear two-piano music does not come around very often, and in the ideal setting of Holy Trinity, on two grand pianos hired from Birmingham, we will hear four works of very varied character, played by one of the UK’s most admired pianists, Martin Roscoe, and the Director of this Series, Christopher Symons. Martin is a highly admired chamber pianist, and works with most of the foremost musicians in this field. Since the retirement of the Lindsay Quartet, he has formed a Piano Trio with violinist Peter Cropper and cellist Moray Welsh. He has a prodigious recording and broadcasting schedule, as concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician.
The delightful programme opens with Mozart’s classical D major Sonata, and then a work of unbridled Romanticism, the Second Piano Suite of Rachmaninov. Next the delightful set of Variations on a Theme of Beethoven by Saint-Saens, and finally—‘it will bring the house down’ says Martin—Percy Grainger’s version of the Gershwin classic, Porgy and Bess. Don’t miss it!
