Summarising the school’s performance Headmaster, Paul Stockdale, said, ‘This has been a good year, with an excellent set of results and I should like to congratulate all the pupils and teachers and thank the parents for their support, which is so vital. I am very proud of what has been accomplished, not just by those who have gained the highest grades but also for the other pupils whose results, for them, represent a personal best’.
Particularly outstanding results were obtained by Abigail Jones who obtained ten grade As (seven of which were A*s), Elizabeth Ashby who gained 9 GCSEs (six of which were A*s), Laura Bell Williams (6 A*s, 2 As and 1 B), Katy Yates (3A*s, 4As and 2 Bs), Martha Twigg (2 A*s and 7 As) and Andrew Parker (6As and 3Bs). Vietnamese student Minh Y Doan, working in her second language, gained 8 passes (5As and 3 Bs). 13 year old Ruth Reynolds gained an A* in Latin.
The overall pass rate (for grade C and above) was 87.2% (compared with a national average of 63.3%) and over 9 out of 10 of all the pupils obtained 5 or more grade Cs and above. A third of the passes were at grades A* or A, 63.4% at grade B or above.
‘When you consider that nearly a third of the pupils in this group were working in their second language these results are even more remarkable’, commented Paul Stockdale.
