Trip to Chirk Castle

Students who are visiting Oswestry School for a short period were treated to a series of trips during the school’s internal exam week.  Earlier in the week, they had visited Shrewsbury and Chester taking in cathedrals, town walls, castles and shopping.

Here Mrs Cathy Hopkins, Director of Recruitment, is seen accompanying the boys, Sohm Buchasia, Utkarsh Meena (Year 12 students from India), Konstantin Prodayvoda (a Year 10 student from Russia) and Borja Fernandez-Vial (a Year 10 student from Spain) on a trip to Chirk Castle.

The boys enjoyed the Castle’s splendid gardens, set in the peaceful Welsh countryside, and were impressed by the artefacts and paintings on display inside.  They were also intrigued by the description of the gruesome life suffered by the dungeon’s inhabitants.

A picnic lunch in the Castle grounds also proved entertaining and Borja discovered that chickens like Twix bars too!

Before returning to school the group walked along the aqueduct at Chirk and particularly enjoyed walking through all 421 metres of the cold, damp canal tunnel.

The boys behaved very well and were a credit to the school and their countries.
