To celebrate Oswestry Schools' 600 year anniversary, a group of the school's netball players are touring South Africa in July.
They wanted to benefit a school in South Africa during their visit so for the past 18 months, the whole school has been fund-raising for LEAP, a school in South Africa. LEAP enables children from the township in Langa to receive further education, particularly in Science, Maths and English in the hope of giving them a better future. The township pupils undergo interviews and have to attend an educational camp before they are selected to attend LEAP.
The £2,000 has been raised through Own Clothes Days, collecting unwanted mobile phones, a sponsored swim with the Oswestry Rotary Club, a charity netball match and VI Form donation. The money raised is going to provide books for the LEAP library.
Whilst on tour, the netball teams will visit the LEAP school and find out other projects they would like us to help them with as the school would like to continue their link with LEAP for further charity events.
