Rounders

U13, U12 North Shropshire Tournament (Ellesmere College) 1.30pm

U13s

Match 1 v Lakelands
Oswestry began the tournament playing against Lakelands. Oswestry took some time to settle and made a few fielding errors allowing Lakelands to score 6.5 rounders. Unfortunately Oswestry could not find their form in this match and lost 6.5 - 3.

Match 2 v Rhyn Park
Oswestry were determined to improve their play and quickly settled into this game with an organised and effective fielding display, especially from Sophie Yates and Natalie Renwick who prevented Rhyn Park from scoring several half rounders at second post. Oswestry went into the batting needing to score 6.5 rounders to win. Natalie Renwick demonstrated some excellent batting, scoring 3 rounders for the team with other players also hitting strongly. This was a very hard fought game which Oswestry won 8.5 - 6.

Match 3 v Adams
Another strong performance from the Oswestry team with some excellent catches by Natalie Renwick, Laura Doyle, Sophie Yates and Seren Heyward Jones. Oswestry batted very strongly with Natalie Renwick again leading by example. Oswestry won 9 - 5.

Match 4 v Corbet
Unfortunately, the rain set in and the tournament had to be abandoned.

Congratulations to the U13 squad who showed great determination throughout the tournament.  I am very pleased with your efforts.

U12s

At the beginning of the first match, against Grove, the girls were rather nervous and made silly, fumbling mistakes with their fielding.  A brilliant catch by Lucy Whitthread seemed to settle them down and they played much better.  Unfortunately, they narrowly lost 5.5 - 6.5 rounders.

The second match v the Marches followed a similar pattern with Rebecca Adcock making an excellent catch.  This time the margin was even closer but we did win the match 3 - 2.5 rounders.

The match v Moreton Hall was exciting as Moreton are always a strong batting side but we managed to close the gap, losing 4.5 - 6.5 rounders.

The girls were now gaining confidence, fielding and batting much better and greatly encouraged by their parents.  They won the next match 11.5 - 4 rounders v Rhyn Park and the final match v Sir John Talbot 7 - 1.5 rounders, with Isobel Makin making a great catch.

Unfortunately, at this point, the heavens opened and the tournament had to be abandoned!!  All the girls were really disappointed but they had really enjoyed themselves and played some promising rounders, which bodes well for the future.

Congratulations to the whole team.
