Oswestry CC 182-8 (40 overs) Martyrs 162-8 (40 overs)
A bleak August day greeted those who turned out for this 40th anniversary match for the Martyrs. An equally black time was encountered by Oswestry’s upper order who were reduced to 20-4 as a result of a searching accurate spell of bowling by Martyrs’ opening attack represented by Davis Morris and Mark Philp. The innings was stabilized and then expanded by a fluent knock by the club’s South African pro, Warrick Fynn (63), aided by Ben Marshall (24), Peter Holloway (33 no) and Elliot Dyke (24).
Martyrs’ reply was headed by Alun Morris who scored an attractive 38, Barry Richards made a robust 40, including two sixes, but, once again, Fynn’s contribution of 4-17 with the ball proved decisive in suppressing the charge for victory. In spite of a final flourish of 29 no from Mark Philp, Martyrs fell 20 runs short.
