Royal Visit

HRH The Duke of Gloucester, am

Students turned out in force to welcome HRH the Duke of Gloucester as he visited and toured the school today in celebration of our sexcentenary.

Although the arrival of the Royal Party was delayed by the weather conditions, the programme for the visit was as below.

VISIT TO OSWESTRY SCHOOL

TO MARK THEIR SEXCENTENARY

THURSDAY 14 JUNE 2007

 

11.45 am           HRH The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO accompanied by his Equerry (Captain Ben Sempla-Ntege) and Personal Protection Officer (Sgt Iain George) will arrive at School House, Oswestry School by car.  His Royal Highness will be received by the Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire (Mr Algernon Heber-Percy).  The Lord-Lieutenant will ask leave to present, the Hon. Mrs Jane Heber-Percy and the Assistant Clerk to the Lieutenancy (Mr Martin Stevens).

 

                        The Lord-Lieutenant will then ask leave to present:-

 

                        The High Sheriff of Shropshire (Mrs Meriel Afia LVO)

                        The Chairman of Shropshire County Council (Mr Brian Gillow) and Mrs Helen Gillow

                        The Bishop of Shrewsbury (The Rt Revd Dr Alan Smith)

Mr Owen Paterson MP (North Shropshire) and The Hon. Mrs Rose Paterson

The Town Mayor (Mrs Doris Barrow) and Mr Eric Barrow

                        The Chairman of the Governors (Mr Peter Wilcox-Jones) and Mrs Wendy Wilcox-Jones

                        The Headmaster of Oswestry School (Mr Paul Stockdale) and Mrs Sarah Stockdale

 

11.50 am           Mr Paul Stockdale and The Chairman of Governors will escort His Royal Highness to the Archive Room where he will meet the School Governors and their spouses (arranged in appropriate groups).  There will be an opportunity to view items associated with the 600 year history of the school.  Refreshments will be available. His Royal Highness will be invited to sign the visitor’s book and a photograph.

 

11.55 am           His Royal Highness escorted by Mr Paul Stockdale will proceed to the Pool Room.  Mr Stockdale will ask leave to present five international students plus four House Parents.  The five international students are:-

 

                        Kyle Real – Year 5 (Youngest male boarder – forces family)

                        Semen Bas – Year 9 (From the Ukraine)

                        Ben Chan – Year 10 (From Hong Kong)

                        Dikko Lawal – Year 11 (From Nigeria but family currently living in Tunisia)

                        Andrew Parker – Year 11 (From Wales)

 

                        The House parents are:-

 

                        Mr David Arnott (Housemaster)

                        Mr Alistair Othen (Assistant Housemaster)

                        Mr Mark Philp (Assistant Housemaster)

                        Mrs Maria Martoccia (Assistant Housemistress)

 

12.00 pm           His Royal Highness escorted by Mr Paul Stockdale will proceed to the School Chapel.  The Choir will give a short performance.  Mr Stockdale will ask leave to present the Director of Music (Mrs Sue Morris).  His Royal Highness escorted by Mr Stockdale will exit the Chapel, and will proceed through the Car Park.  There will be parents, teachers and pupils in this area.  His Royal Highness will proceed up the hill and will be able to view Tennis and Netball being played.

 

12.05 pm           His Royal Highness will enter the Science Block.  There will be a typical science lesson taking place.  Mr Paul Stockdale will ask leave to present the Science Teacher (Mrs Margaret Hart).

 

12.10 pm           His Royal Highness escorted by Mr Paul Stockdale will proceed to Holbache House and will view the common room.  His Royal Highness will meet a group of eight teachers and in addition four pupils will be working at their computers.

 

12.15 pm           His Royal Highness escorted by Mr Paul Stockdale will proceed to the Six Form Block.  Outside the reception area, Mr Stockdale will ask leave to present:-

 

                        The 600 Prefect (Miss Charlotte Eve)

                        The Head Boy (Mr Alun Morris)

                        The Head Girl (Miss Victoria Booth)

 

                        The Head Boy and Head Girl will escort His Royal Highness to the Common Room.  His Royal Highness will meet a group of five students.   His Royal Highness will proceed through the Pool Room.

 

 

12.20 pm           Mr Paul Stockdale will escort His Royal Highness to the dining room by the side door.  Mr Stockdale will ask leave to present:-

                        Mrs Margaret Edwards (Chef)

                        Mrs Joanne Ryan (Chef)

                        Mrs Ann Kynaston (General Assistant)

12.25 pm           Mr Paul Stockdale will escort His Royal Highness through to the Peter Humphreys Centre where guests, pupils and staff will gather.  Mr Stockdale will invite His Royal Highness to present five long-term service awards to school staff.  Their names are:-

 

                        Mrs Alison Bound (Learning Support Assistant)

                        Mrs Lillian Dunn (Cleaner)

                        Mrs Lesley Durham (Headmistress of Pre-prep Department retiring this summer)

                        Mr Colin Hooper (Modern Foreign Languages Teacher)

                        Mr Nigel Keighley (Head of Design and Technology Department)

 

Mr Stockdale will invite His Royal Highness to present two long service awards to officers in the Combined Cadet Force.  Their names are:-

 

Mr Ray Evanson (Medal plus two clasps, 30 years)

Mr Roger Leonard (Medal plus clasp, 25 years)

 

Mr Stockdale and The Chairman of Governors will give short speeches. His Royal Highness will be invited to give a small speech.   His Royal Highness will unveil a commemorative plaque marking Oswestry School’s sexcentenary.  The plaque will read:-

to mark

A small gift will be presented by Elliot Blount-Powell (Year 4) (commemorative brooch) and Elizabeth Hulme (Year 4) (a book on the history of Oswestry School).

 

12.35 pm           Mr Paul Stockdale and The Chairman of Governors will take leave of His Royal Highness.  His Royal Highness departs by car.
