Tuesday 1st May
Art and Design

Michael Quinn, Story Teller, Workshop (PHC) all day

Dear Parents,

I am writing to inform you that the Art and Design department has identified your son/daughter as being talented in Art. I would like to invite him/her to take part in a workshop on Tuesday 1st May in the PHC at Oswestry School.

The aim of the day will be to take part in an extension class which will enhance practical skills in art. It will also be an opportunity to meet others in the group. I have invited Michael Quinn, a storyteller who worked as a linguist and anthropologist with the aboriginal people of Northern Queensland to conduct a practical workshop. He says of his work “I endeavoured to save what could be saved of the Tjapukai language…one of Australia’s endangered indigenous languages”. He has worked in schools, with the Tjapukai dancers and forest rangers and has developed an interest in the mythologies of the world’s indigenous peoples. As a storyteller, he takes his audiences on a journey around the world in which they participate in a re-enactment of ancient tales from diverse cultures. Michael has worked in many schools and has performed at festivals both in the UK and Australia.

The day starts at 9:10am and is completed by 4:30pm. Since it is in school, lunch will be provided in the school dining hall. The cost of the activity is £8 which will include all materials.

Yours sincerely

A.M.Stonehill
