OSWESTRY BOROUGH COUNCIL’S PRESENTATION TO HEADMASTER PAUL STOCKDALE ON BEHALF OF OSWESTRY SCHOOL
At Oswestry Borough Council Mayor’s Civic Dinner, held at the Wynnstay Hotel on Friday 13th April 2007, the Mayor, Councillor Martin Bennett, presented a perpetual trophy to Oswestry School to mark the 600th anniversary of its foundation.
Councillor Bennett said that he could not imagine Oswestry without its school, and that the town was undoubtedly a better place for having it.
In his reply on behalf of the guests, Headmaster Mr Paul Stockdale echoed the words of the Mayor when he said “the school is the town and the town is the school”. He went on to say that the cup would be named the ‘Cup of Good Cheer’ and would be presented on Speech Day in July to the pupil who, in the opinion of both staff and students, made the school a better place just by their presence.
Mr Stockdale finished by asking those present to join him in a toast to Oswestry - “Floreat Oswestria”.
