STOP PRESS!

Having reached the Top 20 early on in the challenge, Oswestry School is shown here as standing at number 42 in the World Maths Day Hall of Fame! This is an amazing achievement with 100s of schools from 75 different countries taking part!

Well done and thank you for answering those questions!

In a WORLD FIRST, more than 250,000 children will unite over the internet for 48 straight hours to compete in an intense, speedy and LIVE mental arithmetic contest in an attempt to set a world record. Microsoft has endorsed this event, as an innovative way of leveraging technology to bring students of the world together. Students will compete, learn, have fun and unite in their quest to set the world record for answering the most maths questions, ever.

World Maths Day will begin on March 14 west of the International Dateline and continues through to the last minute of March 14 east of the International Dateline, for 48 hours around the globe, students are aiming to exceed 10 million correct answers. Numbers will literally come to life as they fly back and forth across the globe. Students play and compete in 60 second real-time, on-line games of speed and accuracy in mental arithmetic – with and against students from around the world using Live Mathletics.TM

In one week, more than 75 countries have registered for the event and with the clock now ticking, a quarter of a million children from around the world are frantically practicing to participate in what will be the most intense competition they have experienced. Numbers of individual registrations are bursting, as no one wants to miss out on their opportunity to be part of the world record team. As well as having fun, students from across the world are expected to show significant improvement in their foundational mathematical skills.

Prizes will be awarded to the students who answer each millionth question.

This world first concept has sparked an overwhelming response from schools and students to unite together and experience a real-life battle of the numbers which will be heated and intense as the race to set a world record begins. An animated mystery guest will also be making an appearance on the day to create more upheaval and excitement.
