Friday 4th May
Oswestry School 600 Event

"The Great Longbow" Robert Hardy Lecture, PHC, 7.30pm

Brought to you by Sigi and Terri Faith in association with The Old Oswestrians' Society.

Many television viewers will remember Robert Hardy as Siegfried Farnon in “All Creatures Great and Small” or Winston Churchill in “The Wilderness Years”.  More recently he has appeared in the hugely successful Harry Potter films as Cornelius Fudge.

However, few may know he is also a renowned historian with a special interest in medieval history and, in particular, the use of the longbow.  Regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on the weapon, he has written many books about it and has handcrafted longbows himself. Robert is a trustee and consultant to The Mary Rose Trust and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. He became longbow/weapons consultant for the Mary Rose Trust when the first longbows were recovered from the wreck-site in 1979.

Robert will talk to us about the evolution of this powerful weapon during the 100 Years War.

If you can't wait until then, read and listen to the BBC Shropshire website, by clicking here, to find out why Robert considers the longbow to be the decisive weapon of its day.

All seats £10.
