U19 rounders win against Cardinal Griffin

Oswestry_School_Cardinal_Griffin_20.6.12_003-thmb.jpg
Due to poor weather previous fixtures have been cancelled so this match was the first this season for the senior squad.  The team recruited Amelia Mercer and Jessica Pugh from year 9 as exam commitments stopped some of the squad from playing.

After loosing the toss, Oswestry batted first, scoring 5 rounders from 27 good balls.  In fielding, lack of match practice did not adversely affect our performance, but a few errors allowed Cardinal Griffin to score 4.5 rounders.  This put pressure on Oswestry in the second innings, but terrific hitting from Year 11 Natalie Makin (who hit to the gaps in the field) and some plucky runs to second post finished the batting total at 11.5 rounders.

Thankfully this was enough to beat Cardinal Griffins final total of 10.5. Their opportunities were hindered by good bowling from Paige Baker (resulting in backwards hits), Mel McNeil's quick reactions as backstop to catch those hits with accurate passing to Amelia Mercer on second base.

The final score was an 11.5-10.5 win to Oswestry.

Well done girls.
