Netball  v King’s Chester, Wednesday 1st February 2012

Oswestry School U16’s v King's Chester 2nd VII

Oswestry U16’s travelled to Kings Chester to play their 2nd VII, mainly a 6th form team having previously beaten their U16 team 37-15 in December.

This was a challenge for our U16’s. We started well having the majority of possession and allowing our shooters Ellie Chambers and Holly Payne to score at almost every opportunity to put us ahead 8-4 by the end of the first quarter. We displayed some excellent attacking play and our Jessica Tomley and Evie Lacey worked hard to prevent Kings from scoring. The second quarter was much the same and we were in control of the game still ahead at 10-7 by the end of the half.

The third quarter saw us begin to make mistakes and we seemed to lose our stride.  Our passes were intercepted and we were finding it hard to score, missing many good opportunities to stay within reach of the game. Kings took the lead for the first time and were one goal ahead (13 -12) by the end of the third quarter. Unfortunately our GK sustained an injury to her foot and was unable to continue. We knew we had to step up the pace in the final quarter to stay within reach. Kings continued to pressurise and the game was slipping away from us. We continued to make mistakes and missed good chances. Unfortunately, the game ended in a defeat of 22-13; a game which we had controlled for the first half. Thank you to Bethan Walford and Lizzie Jones, two of our U15 players who stepped in at the last minute – you both played very well and were a credit to the team. Thank you for your efforts girls.

Player of the match went to Jessica Tomley.
