1st VII victory against Shrewsbury High School
1st Netball Team win against Shrewsbury High School.
Having played this side a few weeks prior in the U19 County Netball Tournament, the team were more determined than ever to play at their best and get the win that we had been wanting all season.
We had a slow start to the first quarter as we were missing a few players due to illness and so we found adapting to this quite hard, but both sides were pretty evenly matched. Going goal for goal all we could do was try and force errors in Shrewsbury's play. Now, with a building confidence going into the second quarter, we were able to take advantage of their mistakes. With excellent defence work from Mel McNeil and outstanding blocking from Paige Baker, it made it very hard for the Shrewsbury attack to get into the circle.
By the second half we were now well and truly in our stride, taking the lead thanks to Tara Annison for her constant work in the centre and to Jade Perry for her countless amounts of magnificent interceptions. In this final quarter all we needed to do was maintain our work and if possible extend our lead on the Shrewsbury team. They did not make this easy but we were able to hold our own and as a team we gained possession of the game. Natalie Renwick, who is an extremely versatile player, played superb at GS, shooting with confidence and ease by the end of the game; noting that her normal position within the team is GD. The final score was 23-16 to us, a very well deserved win for the team!
A special thank you must go to Lizzie Jones, a year 10, who played an exceptional game as WD, fitting comfortably into the team without any complaint.
Captain's player of the match goes to Jade Perry.

1st team Netball win against Shrewsbury High School
After losing to Shrewsbury High School recently in the County Tournament, the team were eager to win this match. With several players missing, the team stepped onto the court with a couple of players out of their usual position. All were focused from the start and worked hard for each other as both sides had equal possession and Shrewsbury edging ahead by two goals at the end of the first quarter.
The 2nd quarter was much the same and again, Shrewsbury maintained their two goal lead. We continued our work rate into the third quarter, increasing the pressure on Shrewsbury and showing our excellent passing abilities. Jade Perry made several crucial interceptions to regain the possession and a strong defence of Paige Baker and Mel McNeil denied Shrewsbury several scoring opportunities.
Tara Annison and Jade Perry combined well in the attack and passed with ease to feed the ball into the circle for shooters Sophie Yates and Natalie Renwick (usually a WD player) to score. Sophie Yates showed her excellent skills from distance and both shooters must be commended for their consistency. Lizzie Jones, a year 10 student, who stepped in at the last minute played extremely well at WD gaining a lot of respect from the team. We returned to the court for the final quarter in determined mood and really stepped up the pace. With confidence high amongst the players, we took the lead, showing fine sequences of play which were converted into goals from our shooters who were scoring at every opportunity.
We continued to dominate, forcing Shrewsbury into errors and extended our lead to win the match 23-16, a well-deserved victory. Well done to all players, you worked tirelessly for each other and your effort and performance were outstanding today. Player of the match was awarded to Jade Perry.
