The prep department, Bellan House has a thriving chess club which has started competing in national competitions. Hamish Coutts-Britton (Year 3) and Ben Tidridge (Year 4) accumulated points to reach the regional megafinal of the Delauncey UK Schools chess challenge held in Worcester recently.
Year 6 have travelled to Blencathra Field Studies Centre in the Lake District for a week to develop their understanding of aspects in the Geography and Science curriculum. The Field Centre is set in the South West side of Blencathra Mountain and offers a great panorama of pastures, valleys, streams and lakes. It is hoped that this setting will provide interest and inspiration to the pupils and provide them with an opportunity to develop teamwork skills.
Year 1's very much enjoy their weekly violin sessions with Mr Oram, our string specialist, as part of their music curriculum this year. The group sessions are the ideal preparation for individual learning opportunities, next term.
Anya Stojanovic (Year 6) has been entering tournaments as part of her training with England Squash. This is to enable her to gain valuable experience on how to grasp the highs and lows of competitive squash.
This year pupils at the Prep Department have once again enjoyed a day of Valentine festivities. Each Year group visited the café and enjoyed an array of homemade cakes and juice. All of the pupils made a great effort with their outfits for the day and the Prep Department was awash with pink and red, in keeping with the Valentine theme.
