On Friday 24th June around 50 players turned up for the Golf Day at Oswestry Golf Club.
The weather was good and a little breezy.
Stuart Williams’ OO (1998-2006) team wons the Mens' section and Barbara Warner the Ladies’. Both teams scored well and should be proud of their efforts. Bad luck to Mike Scott and Ian Potter OO (1971-76) whose team came second by one point!
Mike Scott kindly donated a glass of champagne for each player at the first tee, which was a generous touch and also helped to sponsor the event for ‘OsFest’.
The course and food were excellent. I would recommend a trip to Oswestry Golf Club just for the food alone really. We are grateful to the club members for offering us the slot at such a good rate. Particular thanks to John Evans who quietly helped things along through the process.
Headmaster Douglas Robb very kindly donated a rare bottle of 1968 single malt whisky which helped raise a significant sum in the raffle. The Headmaster also gave out the prizes and offered support at the start. Alan Crowe OO (1971-77) who did not play but came along and helped out at the start which was an important part of the day done well too.
I hope everyone enjoyed their day and is looking forward to next year already.
We were able to raise a decent sum for the School’s prospective Sports Hall and encourage others to help out where they can to support this essential last part of the jigsaw at Oswestry.
