The Old Oswestrian Society is sad to learn of the passing of Old Oswestrian Peter Humphreys at home on 29th January 2012, at the age of 95.

News of Sudden Death of Tim Lea OO (1970-1976)

The Old Oswestrian Society has received the sad news of the death of Tim Lea OO (1970-1977) of Cockshutt near Ellesmere. Tim, aged 52, died suddenly yesterday, Monday 23rd January 2012.

This years Founder's Day is on November 24th with the Annual OO dinner being held in a new venue this year; the Peter Humpreys Centre.

Ian Steele Rewarded For Educational Visits to Treflach Farm

The hillside property of Treflach Farm near Oswestry, has been in the Steele family for more than 100 years and has been run as a commercial enterprise by Betty and Bob Steele OO (1947-1953) for almost 40 years.

In August 2006 their son, Ian, also an Old Oswestrian, returned from working in London to start a new business on the farm with the aim of proving that small scale agriculture can indeed be environmentally aware, promoting biodiversity and remaining viable in today’s difficult and competitive food production market place.

Derek Poulton Would Like to Meet Old Friends

Derek Poulton OO (1947-1953) now lives in Penwortham, near Preston, and not been in contact with the OO Society for many years but remembers his days at School and wonders what happened to his friends from all those years ago that he has now lost touch with.

'Everest' Lecture - 11th January

OO Andy Chapman (1981-84) will be giving two lectures about his recent ascent of Mount Everest.

From 11.00-12.00 Andy will be speaking to Years 6-9 and then from 12.00-13.00 he will be talking to Years 10-13. Both events will be held in the PHC.

Deputy Headmaster Tim Jefferis has said that "a few parents/OOs could perhaps be accommodated if they come through me." You can email Mr Jefferis here.

Martyn Completes Prestigious 1,400 Mile Rally

Driving a 1959 Daimler SP 250, Martyn Bracegirdle MBE OO (1956-1965) and navigator Mike Lewis, overcame tough conditions to complete HERO's Le Jog 2011, a 1,400 mile Reliability Trial and Classic Car Tour from Land's End to John O'Groats between 10th and 13th December 2011.

Ran Chakrabarti OO (1988-1990) is an International Lawyer and Business Risk Consultant.

Ran has taken the time to send the OO Society an article about his time since he left School at the end of the eighties.

Oswestry School Celebrates Founder's Day

The School celebrated Founder's Day on Saturday 26th November. The day commenced with a church service at St Oswald's with the Venerable Paul Thomas, Archdeacon of Salop as the guest speaker.

Old Oswestrian Society Annual Dinner 2011

The 2011 Old Oswestrian Society AGM and Dinner took place at The Wynnstay Hotel, Oswestry on Saturday 26th November, Founder's Day.

The dinner was attended by 88 Old Oswestrians and guests.

Gina Receives All-American Award

On Saturday 19th November 2011, Gina Paletta OO (-2006) competed in the NAIA Cross Country National Championships at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Washington.

Sally Graduates from Chester University

Sally Roberts OO (-2008), from Trefonen, has graduated from the University of Chester with a 2:1 BA Honours Degree in History with Archaeology.

Sally is a former pupil or Trefonen Primary School and Oswestry School and is now studying at Aberystwyth University, for her PGCE Secondary History, with placements at Ysgol Dinas Bran, in Llangollen and Ysgol Rhiwabon Secondary School, in Ruabon.

Priscilla Huby (nee Jackson) OO (1971-1984) is looking for anyone who was in her class in particular Alison Jackson and Rachel Thomas.

Siân Parry's Wedding Features in Brides Magazine

The wedding of Siân Parry OO (1982-1989), Photo Director of Marie Claire magazine, to Features Editor Simon Lewis took place in October 2010.

The May/June 2011 edition of Brides magazine featured the couple whose wedding took place in The Guards Chapel followed by a reception at The Savile Club.
