Oswestry School launched a Sports Hall Fund Appeal in 2010 to raise funds for the building of a Sports Hall on the Maes-y-Llan playing fields.
Despite the generosity of many people, the present and uncertain future economic climate is making progress towards our financial target difficult, and therefore the timescale has become uncertain. Added to this are the changes by the Government which have reduced tax relief and considerably restricted grants for such projects.
The Governors have therefore decided to change the direction of the Appeal to an Astropitch to be sited on the Maes-y-Llan, which will be used for hockey, and five-a-side football, as well as for the all-weather cricket nets. It will be fully floodlit and have adjacent shelters and amenities.
It will also be available for rent by the local community.
We will update you later as regards the time-scale for the project. However, there are many ways that O.O.s, parents, and friends of the School can help in a more practical way than with other projects we have completed previously. We are looking for:-
• people with expertise/experience in the same or similar type projects
• people with earth-moving or similar equipment, and experience of laying pitches, tennis courts, etc.
• people with experience in providing services, particularly electrical, for outside projects
• people with project management experience
Once the resources are identified we hope to issue the time-scale for the project.
Donations already in the David Holbache Fund will be used to initiate this project. If you wish to make a donation to the Fund you can do this on-line or by mail, or through the termly contributions.
On all donations we can claim tax relief, and if you pay tax above the standard rate of tax you can claim higher rate relief from the Inland Revenue.
The list of donors to date was posted on the School website under the title New Sports Hall Appeal which is now titled New Astropitch Appeal. For more details on how to donate to the fund please click here
