International Students Evening
Eric Ma, Jailila Haji Jali and Leslie Onumbu from Oswestry School took part in what has become an annual event for the Rotary Club of Oswestry.
The International Students' Evening invites pupils from local schools with international backgrounds to meet Rotarians and give a short talk about their experiences.
This year, four schools participated - The Marches Academy, Adcote School, Ellesmere College and Oswestry School – all bringing three of their students to the event.
Thanking the pupils for their contribution to the evening and the accompanying teachers for their time, event organiser Rotarian Ian Haig said: “I am sure that everybody listening to these young people tonight will have been impressed by several things:“Firstly the confidence with which they have all spoken tonight. It is quite daunting to have to speak to a roomful of adult strangers and everybody acquitted themselves really well.
“Secondly to make such a good speech in your second, or even third language as many of the students have done this evening makes the achievement even more remarkable.
“Thirdly we have to note the remarkable variety of backgrounds represented. With pupils talking about Hong Kong, Nigeria, Brunei, Ukraine, Zimbabwe, Holland, Poland, Germany, Vietnam and Germany it has been an absorbing evening and we have to thank
both pupils and staff for their involvement.”
