Anthem Selected for Oswestry Games
Mr Julian Cattley, the new Director of Music has had his musical composition selected by the organisers of the Oswestry Games (an Olympic-style community games event to be held in the town from 6th to 15th July this year).
The competition organised by the Oswestry Games organisers and the Oswestry Youth Music Festival committee was to create bars of music and was open to people in the area.
The piece of music that Mr Cattley has composed will be played at the opening and closing ceremonies.
He is "absolutely delighted because it is an extremely exciting opportunity. I submitted my entry which is a powerful, stirring anthem for Oswestry and the sporting ambition of the Olympics."
Mr Cattley is now scoring an arrangement to be performed at the games premiere "we are hoping to establish a community choir to perform it if we can." The Porthywaen Band will accompany the choir.
He has joined the School this term from Walford and North Shropshire College with a diverse range of musical expertise and is a keyboard and vocal specialist. Mr Cattley is a big fan of English music inspired by Vaughan Williams and Sir Malcolm Arnold.
