Oswestry School's Sixth Form is not merely an extension of the Upper School, but a unique leap into adulthood. With more opportunity, freedom and a totally different atmosphere, the Sixth Form provides students with an ideal learning environment in which to prepare for the world outside.
Oswestry School aims to enable each individual to achieve their potential. Progress and achievement is carefully monitored in small tutor groups. Excellent teaching delivered by highly qualified and experienced staff is allied to an effective tutorial programme and provides a sound preparation for university life. In the Sixth Form most students study four AS levels in the Lower Sixth and three of these are taken to A2 level in the Upper Sixth, providing a total of three full A levels and one AS level. Students may, of course, study up to five or six A level subjects if this is appropriate and desirable.
The School's A level results are first class, with the majority of leavers proceeding to degree courses at top universities. For those interested and capable provision for Oxbridge entry is also made, with interview training, advice and coaching given to prepare prospective candidates thoroughly. We pride ourselves on the fact that careful and considered advice is given to ensure passage to the next appropriate stage - every member of the Sixth Form, whatever their ability, is given every opportunity to succeed.
The Sixth Form is regarded as an essential transition between school and either university or the ‘world of work'. Students are therefore encouraged to develop the habits of independent study and enquiry. There are purpose-built boarding houses for both girls and boys to assist with this passage in a structured environment. Their facilities are separate from those of the rest of the School.

THE LIBRARY AND PRIVATE STUDY
Today's students need to have access to the different ways of collecting information. Developing advanced information skills is essential for A level studies and beyond. Oswestry School provides a wide range of resources, including our well-stocked resource centre/library which also includes computers offering internet access, computer suites, wireless access, and quality newspapers and periodicals. Whilst encouraging and supporting students to use advanced learning tools, the library is a place where the self discipline of quiet study is firmly established.
The Sixth Form has access to the computer facilities and of course to the internet which is used as an important research tool. Sixth Form students benefit from supervised private study in order to help them make the important transition from GCSE to the more independent learning required for A levels.
Oswestry School is well equipped with resources for Information Communication Technology and pursues a policy of development to ensure that our resources are kept up to date. The two main computer rooms and Library are at the centre of a newly upgraded network of modern PCs which is steadily being expanded. All departments have access to the ICT facilities either via their own equipment or by booking one of the computer rooms. In addition, the whole campus is served by a wireless network. Sixth Form pupils are encouraged to make use of this facility, to bring their laptops, phones or other digital devices into school and use these as important tools to aid their learning.
