“I am absolutely over the moon,” said Oyin, who is originally from Nigeria and harbours ambitions to eventually become attorney general in her country of birth.
“I must admit that I am also really surprised – I applied in April and didn’t hear a thing until last week when I got a letter from the LSE.”
Oyin has been awarded the scholarship on condition she achieves an A* and two A grades in her A levels.
The Headmaster, Douglas Robb, said that everyone at the school was delighted for Oyin.
He added: “We are all thrilled because not only is Oyin very bright and hard working, but she is also a really lovely girl and extremely popular.
“I have absolutely no doubt that she will get the required grades – she is actually predicted to get two A*s and two As.
“We wish her all the very best for the future and I am sure she will go very far.”
Oyin’s scholarship – called the Pauline Aviges Graham Scholarship for African Women – can be used to pay the tuition fees for the three-year course which starts in September.
