Bellan House, ShelterBox Demonstration
Here are some pictures showing a session we had today at Bellan.
Neil Ruby, a parent of a Reception pupil, came into school in his role as a representative of the Rotary Club of Oswestry Borderland, to demonstrate how a Shelterbox works.
ShelterBox is part of the Rotary Club which sends these boxes out to disaster areas. Each box contains a tent and basic items needed for initial survival, mainly providing immediate shelter from the elements. Some of these tents are still being used in Haiti 18 months on!
The children all enjoyed the sessions which were conducted one class at a time.
Over the past 3 years, the pupils of Bellan House have raised money for ShelterBox by taking part in the Bellan, Lower and Middle School Sponsored Swim. Since 2008, pupils in Years 3 and 4 have joined in with the Swim up at the Senior School and have done their best and raised thousands of pounds for various charities including ShelterBox; funds from the Swim have purchased at least 3 Shelterboxes. Follow the links below to find out more. Well done to all you swimmers!
