Football, 1st XI v Old Oswestrians, 2pm

Our senior side were defeated by a squad made up from school teams of old at the weekend. Traditionally the Old Boys' game is always a fun event and it was no different this year with many of the OO's commenting on the good natured spirit in which the match was played.

Although we played some quality football at times, we could not stop the Old Boys side from scoring despite some great saves from Callum Morris. We were simply unable to finish our chances. A special mention should go to our younger players who did their best against a physically stronger side. The final score finished 7-2 with goals from Sean Crompton and Scott Vallely. Man of the Match is shared between Callum Morris and Scott Vallely.

Great game with OOs winning 7-2. Dave Lancaster lifts the new OO challenge shield!

Congratulations to all the School girls who played against the Old Oswestrians at the weekend. The game was quite physical, however, when the School girls were in possession of the ball it was played at a fast pace out wide and switching the play to score eight fantastic goals from Natalie Renwick, Alex Mowbray, Rebecca Long and Laura Doyle. The defence played solidly with Lucy Williams making a fantastic defensive diving save.

Final score being 8-2, this was a very well-deserved win for School.

Well played girls.

Hockey, 1st Xl v Shrewsbury School (a) 2.15pm

Hockey1_6.jpg
Today we went to play Shrewsbury School's first hockey team; we knew it would be a tough game so determination was a must. The game was on Astroturf, which we weren't used to, so we had to attempt to adapt our skills which proved more difficult than initially thought.

Swimming, North Shropshire Gala (Moreton Hall) 2pm

I would like to express my thanks to the pupils who took part in the swimming gala today at Moreton Hall.  I was very happy with all of the events that they did and I am satisfied that they all gave 100%.  They faced some very stiff competition from many seasoned swimmers and they had to compete against County and National swimmers as well as two of the best triathletes in the country.

Hockey, U13 v Marches School (a) 3.15pm

Hockey1_5.jpg
Congratulations and well played to the U13 girls who played in the match today. The game consisted of largely of our girls being dominant in attack, threading the ball through from the defense, playing the ball wide then finishing with accuracy and precision. All the goals came from Verity Bowen, Captain on the day, who therefore received Teacher's Player of the Match. Captain's Player of the Match went to Amelia Mercer who was prolific in setting up the attacking opportunities.

Well played to all the girls and thank you for your time and efforts.

Result: Won 3-0.

Inter-Counties Schools Cross Country Match, Staffordshire University, Stoke-on-Trent

Daisy Tickner (Year 10) ran a storming race in the mud and the rain at Staffordshire University today to lead home the Shropshire Intermediate Girls' Team. Despite being one of the youngest in her age group, she came in 1st for Shropshire, and finished 17th in the field of 51 runners from the 10 counties competing. Other teams were from Merseyside, Cumbria, Surrey, West Midlands, Kent, Cheshire, Warwickshire, South Wales and Staffordshire.

Daisy's sprint finish took her past the photographer before he could capture her in action so the image here is of Daisy and some of the Shropshire Intermediate Girls' Team (Daisy is 2nd from right).

Hockey, 1st Xl, U15 v Ellesmere College (a) 2.15pm

Hockey3.jpg
1st XI

After the warm up and team talk, the match began with Ellesmere having first push back. For the majority of the first half, ball possession was fairly even between both teams. The teams were evenly matched which made the match harder than expected. Play was backwards and forwards as both teams had strong defences. Sophie Yates and Hannah Foggin worked well together, covering the goal area and not letting the ball go past them to Lucy our goal keeper.

Hockey, U13 North Shropshire 7-a-Side (SJT) 1.30pm

Hockey1_3.jpg
Well done and thank you to all the girls who participated in the tournament today, who represented the school brilliantly with their effort and determination during all the games.

The girls finished joint 3rd in their group with The Marches; unfortunately they did not make it to the semi-finals. However it was very close with a win against Adcote beating them 2-0 with goals from Verity Bowen, no score draws against Ellesmere A and The Marches and a loss against Ellesmere B. Megan Williams' Captain's Player of the Tournament went to Verity Bowen and my Player of the Tournament went to Kyla Welsby. Well done girls - great play.

I would like to thank those parents that came along for their continual support - thank you.

Well done girls.

Miss Jones
