This should be a most exciting occasion. The opportunity to hear two-piano music does not come around very often, and in the ideal setting of Holy Trinity, on two grand pianos hired from Birmingham, we will hear four works of very varied character, played by one of the UK's most admired pianists, Martin Roscoe, and the Director of this Series, Christopher Symons.
To close the Season, we are truly fortunate and honoured to present one of the greatest pianists of our age, Alfred Brendel. His long and very distinguished career - in 1998 he celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his professional debut! - encompasses regular appearances with all the world's greatest orchestras and conductors, and his list of magnificent recordings goes on and on.
On Sunday May 20
th, a packed audience at Holy Trinity Church, Oswestry, was fortunate to hear what is regarded as the finest baroque orchestra in Europe, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Their string section, with harpsichord and chamber organ continuo, performed a programme of lesser-known music, entitled ‘Bohemian Baroque', by composers such as Biber, Muffat and Schmelze.
This cello-piano duo is now one of the most wanted chamber ensembles in the country, having recently become part of the Music in the Round scheme set up by the Lindsays' Peter Cropper. Their wide repertoire of marvellous music written for this combination is made all the more wonderful by the ravishing sound of Adrian's Stradivarius cello.
A large audience was delighted by the concert given by the Sirenian Singers in Holy Trinity Church as part of the Oswestry School Recital Series. This highly successful choir, based in Wrexham, has won many prestigious prizes in competition, culminating in the Choir of the Year Award in the International Eisteddford at Llangollen.
